The Shanghai Economic and Information System Vocational Skills Competition - Selective Laser Melting (SLM/LPBF) Metal 3D Printing Special was successfully held on October 15, 2021.

The opening ceremony was held at AECC Commercial Aircraft Engine Co., Ltd. ("ACAE") and the equipment operation final was held at HBD Shanghai Additive Manufacturing Center.

The opening ceremony was presided over by the ACAE Youth League Secretary Mr Zou. Young contestants, competition judges, and expert leaders from SHEITC, ACAE, HBD, and Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES) attended the opening ceremony.

Experts and leaders said that 3D printing technology has been increasingly used in the aviation and manufacturing fields. They hope that the competition will serve as a starting point to promote the cultivation of more skilled talents that meet the requirements of industrial development, so as to focus, innovate and improve, and practice new technologies with craftsman spirit of the times. Incorporating metal 3D printing into one of the twelve systematic professional competitions aims to promote the close integration of emerging industries, new skills and young talents. They also hope that through good competition, promotion of mutual exchanges and advancement, and creation of a social atmosphere of skills, it will encourage young people to become talents with skills and serve various industries with skills. They wished that the skills competition would be better and better under the active cooperation of various organizations and all the players have outstanding performances in the finals.

After a lottery, the contestants were randomly divided into several groups for examination. The competition requires a series of metal 3D printing machine operations to be completed within the given time. The players were engrossed and the referees were rigorous and steady, fully demonstrating the strength and quality of the new generation of talents with manufacturing skills.

With the joint efforts of all participants and staff, this vocational skills competition came to a successful conclusion. This competition fully demonstrated the spirit of the "New Era, New Skills, and New Dreams". It not only attracted the extensive participation of outstanding young talents, but also provided a solid foundation for cultivating skilled and innovative talents with the spirit of model workers, labor and craftsmanship.

The competition was sponsored and co-organized by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economic and Information (SHEITC), the Shanghai Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau (RSJ), the Shanghai Vocational Skills Appraisal Center, AECC Commercial Aircraft Engine Co., Ltd. ("ACAE"), and Shanghai Hanbang United 3D Tech Co., Ltd. (HBD Shanghai Additive Manufacturing Center).

For the training of this event, a few days before the final, HBD engineers provided the contestants with professional and detailed equipment operation training, including equipment startup, powder handling, substrate & scraper installation and commissioning, data processing, etc. In addition, SLM technology principles were shared from the technical level to provide training players with more knowledge of metal additive manufacturing skills and improve the knowledge structure. As many as 30 contestants from industry-leading companies participated in this special training and written test. The high standards of HBD in all aspects was affirmed by the team leaders.

The HBD-150 metal 3D printers were selected as the equipment for this competition. The printer is based on the technology of Selective Laser Melting (SLM) / Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF).
