The team\u2019s challenge has always been to design and manufacture a race car that balances the demands of speed, strength, and adherence to strict competition regulations. Building on the successful results from our previous collaboration, TJURacing team chose to integrate HBD\u2019s metal 3D printing technology into several critical areas of their car, particularly within the chassis and powertrain. Traditional machining methods often face limitations in producing parts with the required precision and complexity. For example, the exhaust manifold, a key component in the vehicle\u2019s powertrain, features an irregular surface and complex internal structures that are nearly impossible to manufacture using conventional methods. By turning to HBD\u2019s metal 3D printing, the team was able to produce a part that not only fit perfectly with the engine\u2019s exhaust system but also met the stringent requirements for gas-tightness and durability under high-pressure conditions.<\/p>\r\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"1124\" src=\"https:\/\/en.hb3dp.com\/repository\/image\/e9c2fa87-003b-41a6-a6ef-412d2798b5b1.jpg?t=1726045493053\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\">HBD 3D printed exhaust manifold<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>In addition to the exhaust manifold, the team also applied HBD\u2019s technology to other critical components, such as the aluminum alloy steering knuckles and the brake and acceleration rails. These components required precise sliding mechanisms and pin positioning, which were challenging to achieve with traditional manufacturing techniques. The high printing precision ensured that even components with minimal tolerance deviations were easy to install and functioned as intended. The material properties of the 3D-printed parts, including resistance to high temperatures and pressures, were confirmed during testing, contributing to the overall durability and performance of the race car.
